Big Thinkers Science Club

 Big Thinkers Afterschool Science Club ignites students curiosity after the bell rings. There is an exciting new topic every week, each with a cool take-home project.  Topics include Lasers, Slime, Zoology, Matter, Flight School, Dry Ice, and Robotics!  Open to students K - 5th grade.

Smoke Rise Robotics

 Robotics is open to students in the Second through the Fifth Grade. (Younger students may join but must be able to sustain a 90-minute class) This course combines Math, Science, Engineering, and Technology. Robotics offers students a way to learn which combines all of these curriculums and have fun doing it. They will build robots and learn how to tell them what to do. Each week we will add a new feature, design new robots, and then test them. We will use “Lego for Education” building pieces to construct each robot. The 2nd year Robotic students will be taught programming using RCX Code. They will use RCX programmable bricks to run each robot. The sessions are 90 minutes each week. All equipment is provided.

Smoke Rise Ballet

 Ballet scheduled to start 10/12.  More details coming soon. 

Smoke Rise Chess

 Chess is open to all students K - 5th grade.  This class is for students that have little or limited knowledge to advanced players of the game of Chess.  Beginners will learn one piece at a time until they have learned all the pieces.  Each class will have instruction and monitored open play between students.  Awards will be presented as levels of understanding and ability are met.  Chess sets are provided.  Chess clocks and notation sheets will be provided when that level of play is obtained.
